Hartley Terms & Conditions

These Terms & Conditions constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Hartley Technology Limited and apply to your use of the Hartley application. Please read them carefully before using the app. By clicking ‘Create Account’ you agree to these Hartley Terms and Conditions and confirm that you have read and understood the Hartley Privacy Policy. 

1. About Hartley & User Eligibility 

1.1. The company

1.2. What is Hartley? 

Hartley is a mobile-first (AI) home management application designed to help households stay organised, save time, and reduce mental load. Currently, Hartley is available as a mobile application on iOS and Android devices only. The Hartley application enables users to: 

  • Upload, store and manage home-related documents

  • Set smart reminders 

  • Track household tasks 

  • Collaborate with a partner or household member 

1.3. Eligibility 

To use the Hartley application, you must: 

  • Be at least 18 years of age 

  • Be a resident of the United Kingdom 

  • Use the application solely for your personal, non-commercial use

By signing up, you confirm that you meet these eligibility criteria and that all information you provide is accurate and up to date. 

1.4. Access and Use 

The Hartley application is free to use at launch. In the future, we may introduce: 

  • Paid features or subscriptions 

  • Optional services connected to external providers (e.g. home services or lead generation) 

We will always provide clear notice before adding any paid elements or third-party services. 

You agree to keep your password confidential and will be responsible for all use of your account and password. 

We cannot guarantee the Hartley application will be available at all times. We may experience hardware, software, or other problems or need to perform maintenance related to the Hartley application, resulting in interruptions, delays, or errors. We reserve the right to change, revise, update, suspend, discontinue, or otherwise modify the Hartley application at any time or for any reason without notice to you. 

1.5. Account Deletion 

Users can delete their Hartley account at any time via the application. When you delete your account, all user and associated data, including your documents, tasks, profile information, and household content, will be immediately and permanently deleted from our systems. We do not retain backups or archives of your personal data after deletion.

2. Data Handling & Privacy 

2.1. The Hartley application collects personal data to provide and improve your household management experience. You acknowledge and agree that your data including personal data will be processed in accordance with our Hartley Privacy Policy.

 

2.2. Use of AI & Smart Features 

The Hartley application includes a smart assistant that uses AI to respond to your questions and requests. To provide relevant and helpful answers, the Hartley application may access: 

  • The documents you upload 

  • Household and user information you provide 

This AI functionality operates within your household context and is designed to keep your data secure, private, and useful only within your account.

3. User Responsibilities 

3.1. Acceptable Use of Uploaded Documents 

The Hartley application is designed to help you manage your household more effectively. To ensure the Hartley application remains safe and useful for all users, you agree that: 

  • You will only upload documents that are directly related to your household (e.g. insurance policies, utility bills, warranties, invoices, service receipts). 

  • You must not upload any illegal, harmful, abusive, defamatory, or copyrighted material without permission. 

  • You must not use the Hartley application to store or distribute documents that are unrelated to household management. 

  • You will not use the app for any unlawful purpose, to harass others, distribute viruses, or attempt to hack our systems. 

We reserve the right to remove content and/or restrict account access if these conditions are violated. 

3.2. Household Sharing and Permissions 

Hartley allows you to invite one additional person (e.g. a partner or spouse) to join your household. 

  • Both users have equal access rights to the household’s shared content, including tasks, documents, reminders, and assistant interactions. 

  • There is no designated “primary” or “secondary” user; each user has full visibility and control over shared data. 

You are responsible for ensuring that any person you invite understands and complies with these Terms & Conditions.

3.3. Use of the Hartley Assistant (AI Disclaimer) 

Hartley includes an AI-powered assistant that helps answer questions about your household documents, reminders, and tasks. 

While we strive to provide helpful and accurate information, the assistant is: 

  • For informational and organisational purposes only 

  • Not a substitute for professional advice (legal, financial, insurance, medical, or otherwise) 

  • Based on the information you upload or provide, which may be incomplete or out of date 

We do not accept liability for decisions made based on the Hartley assistant’s responses. You should always consult a qualified professional before acting on any important matter.

4. Legal Protections 

4.1. Governing Law 

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales. By using the Hartley application, you agree that any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

4.2. Our Responsibilities

The Hartley application is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis. While we strive to offer a reliable, intelligent service, we do not represent or guarantee that the application or assistant will always be accurate, complete, up-to-date or free from interruption. Users are solely responsible for how they interpret and act upon the information provided in the Hartley application. 

You agree not to hold Hartley liable for decisions made based on the Hartley application content or AI assistant output including any errors, omissions, mistakes, inaccuracies or AI hallucinations in any content and material or any loss or damage arising from missed reminders, inaccurate or incomplete responses. 

We do not warrant, endorse, guarantee, or assume responsibility for any product or service advertised or offered by a third party through the Hartley application. 

4.3. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our liability and that of our employees and directors to you for the provision of the Hartley application and related services is limited to a maximum of £100. 

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions excludes or limits our liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law.

4.4. Intellectual property 

We are the owner of all content and features of the Hartley application  as well as the trademarks and logos contained therein. We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access the Hartley application and download any portion of the content to which you have properly been granted access. Except as set out in these Terms & Conditions, no part of the Hartley application and no content or marks may be copied, reproduced, sold, licensed or otherwise exploited for any (commercial) purposes whatsoever.

You retain ownership of content you upload but grant us a worldwide royalty-free license to use it to operate and improve the Hartley application. 

4.5. User Feedback & Suggestions 

We welcome your feedback and ideas for improving the Hartley application. 

  • By submitting suggestions, feedback, or feature requests within the Hartley application, you grant Hartley a non-exclusive, royalty-free, and unrestricted right to use, adapt, or implement those ideas in any form. 

  • This helps us continue to improve the Hartley application for all users, without any obligation of compensation or credit.

5. Changes, Termination & Enforcement 

5.1. Changes to These Terms & Conditions 

We may update these Terms & Conditions from time to time for any reason, including to reflect changes to our services, technology, or legal obligations. 

Any updates will be communicated to users through an in-application notification and/or we will make you aware o changes to these Terms and Conditions by updating the ‘Last Updated’ date of these Terms & Conditions. It is your responsibility to periodically review these Terms & Conditions to stay informed of updates.

Continued use of the Hartley application after changes have been posted indicates your acceptance of the updated Terms & Conditions. Changes take effect immediately once published in the Hartley application. 

5.2. Changes to the Harley Application 

We reserve the right to change, modify, or remove the contents of the app at any time or for any reason at our sole discretion without notice. 

5.3. Suspension or Termination of Use 

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to your Hartley application account if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms & Conditions. Reasons for suspension or termination include (but are not limited to): 

  • Uploading prohibited or unlawful content, breaking the law or encouraging any unlawful activity 

  • Misusing household data, accessing another user’s information without permission or allowing another user to access your account (save where the Hartley application allows anyone else to share the account with you) 

  • Abusing or attempting to manipulate the AI assistant, deliberately disrupting the operation of anyone’s website, app, server or business, trying to gain 6nauthorized access to computers, data, systems, accounts or networks or transmitting any harmful software code such as viruses;

  • Repeatedly exceeding fair use limits set to maintain service performance 

  • Infringing our or anyone else’s intellectual property rights (for example, by using or uploading someone else’s content)

  • Attempting to decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble the Hartley application or any part of it.

We may also end this agreement at any time by giving you reasonable notice this may include where we stop providing our services or supporting the Hartley application (in whole or in part) or if we, acting reasonably, believe it is necessary to do so to comply with applicable law or to support our legitimate business interests.

If your Hartley application account is suspended or terminated, you may lose access to all data stored within your household account, and we may delete your documents and associated content as part of that process.

5.4. Miscellaneous

These Terms & Conditions and any policies or operating rules posted by us in the Hartley application or in respect of the Hartley application constitute the entire agreement between you and us. Our failure to exercise or enforce any right or provision of these Terms & Conditions shall not operate as a waiver of such right or provision. We may assign any or all of our rights and obligations to others at any time. If any provision or part of a provision of these Terms & Conditions is determined to be unlawful, void or unenforceable, that provision or part of a provision is deemed severable from these Terms & Conditions and does not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
